Intel vPro OOB Console Requirements

Posted by Trevor Sullivan on 2009/06/30

I’d like to take a moment to document the requirements to get a support user’s workstation configured properly to manage a vPro system.

All Operating Systems

Install ConfigMgr Console Hotfix

Install the Microsoft KB960804 hotfix on any system on which you install the ConfigMgr console

Enable Internet Explorer Kerberos Authentication

32-bit Platform

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Feature Control\FEATURE_INCLUDE_PORT_IN_SPN_KB908209

64-bit Platform

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Feature Control\FEATURE_INCLUDE_PORT_IN_SPN_KB908209

Data Type: REG_DWORD

Value Name: iexplore.exe

Value: 0x1

Internal Issuing CA Certificate

In order for serial-over-LAN to function correctly, you’ll need to copy your subordinate / issuing CA certificate from the Intermediate CA store to Trusted Root CA store on each client with the ConfigMgr console installed. If you don’t perform this step, you should still be able to connect to the AMT device, but serial-over-LAN will fail.

Windows XP

Install WinRM v1.1

Install Windows XP Service Pack 3

Windows Vista / 7

Note: Windows 7 64-bit Build 7100 does not work with the Serial-over-LAN feature

Enable Telnet access via Windows Features dialog

Windows Features - Telnet Client

If I’ve left anything out, please let me know so that I can update this blog post. Thanks!
